On Saturday May 1, 2010 our community gathered at the church hall of South Burnaby United to celebrate L’Arche Greater Vancouver’s 36th Anniversary. We danced the night away to wonderful live music played by our friends Rock Hard.
The Coffeehouse celebrated the 36 years (and counting!) L’Arche has been in Vancouver. Our Executive Director, Denise Haskett, spoke to the abundance of the past year saying that we as a community continue to be blessed by our neighbours, friends and supporters.
The Coffeehouse also celebrated our friendships, old and new, in the community of South Burnaby. In thanks to the following local businesses, we had the opportunity to give fun door prizes to a few lucky winners. Starbucks donated some delicious coffee and a mug, and White Spot, Thai House and Red Robin each donated a $25 gift certificate towards a meal in their restaurant.
We were also delighted to welcome L’Arche Comox Valley to the Coffeehouse. L’Arche Comox Valley is the only other L’Arche community in B.C. They opened their first home in 2000. Any occasion for both communities to get together is special. We’d like to thank L’Arche Comox Valley for coming all this way to celebrate with us!
The highlight of the evening was blowing out the candles of our Anniversary cake. The cake was lovingly made by Meltem and Fairy of L’Arche who decorated the cake with blue icing. Blue is L’Arche’s official colour!
Coffeehouses are organized by our Coffeehouse Committee. Decorations for the Anniversary Coffeehouse were made by Sujit, Yurim, Elouise, Linda, Illonka and many others. A huge appreciation to everyone who helped make this anniversary one heck of a celebration!
