Art Together Gallery
Here is a small sampling of the fantastic Art Together pieces the L’Arche community has been creating for the show. Some of these pieces will be for sale and are a perfect way to brighten any room.
Community Art Piece
At the event, there will be an opportunity for guests to help create a community art piece, guided by local artist, Thomas Roach from 1 – 4 pm.
Thomas Roach is interested the relationship between text and textile, particularly in using cloth as a medium to explore the telling of community and spiritual stories. This is principally expressed in the design and creation of distinctive vestments to enhance Christian worship. Thomas also creates textiles for individual spiritual exploration and meditation; and shares his experience of cloth through consultations, workshops and community art projects.
Significant commissions include Christ Church Cathedral Vancouver, the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund and St. Paul’s Cathedral Regina. Thomas holds a diploma in textile arts with distinction from Capilano College, and his work was featured in a Textile Museum of Canada and Museum London (Ontario) exhibition entitled “Boys with Needles”.
You don’t need to be an artist to participate, everyone is welcome and encouraged to help build this piece. The finished art will be donated to our neighbours and friends, South Slope Elementary School.
