Gateway Gives (and gets everyone else involved too)

About a year ago Jeff   at Gateway Casinos & Entertainment contacted Tessa Vanderkop at the Burnaby Board of Trade about an idea he had.  He wanted to find a way to support a local charity with more than a cheque – he wanted his friends in various trades to get involved with a charity at a practical level. Tessa kindly recommended L’Arche Greater Vancouver and soon Jeff was at our door for a meeting and tour.

After several fact-finding missions Jeff and his Gateway Project team decided to help us by

  • Upgrading lights with high efficiency features
  • Adding occupancy sensor controls where needed
  • Replacing a hot water tank
  • Refreshing the landscaping in the front of our building

By the time the project wrapped up on June 19 Gateway and the various partners contributed approximately $25,000 in goods and services.  Big, big thanks to the following project partners:

BC Hydro Power smart express Program

Cedar Rim Nursery Supply of plants

Commercial Lighting Supplying of lights and parts

Emco Supply of hot water tank

ESC Automation Hot water tank installation

Fortis BC Efficient water heater program

Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Ltd. Project lead and Donation

GE Lighting

Luma Tech Energy Lighting audit

Mac’s II Agencies Supplying of lights and sensor

Sancor Landscaping Landscape refresh

Steele Electric Electrical installation of lights and controls

We also received the following cash donations towards the project:

  • $1,000 from Fortis (Warm Hearts Program)
  • $1,000 from Gateway Entertainment and Casinos
  • $2,000 from BC Hydro

We are grateful to everyone who got involved in such a practical and generous way.
